We write a blog post….and launch Potential.co. and within a week
All of these people did these things without us asking ….what is going on?
“What would you do with your time if you had all the money”
People say tech changes the world. True.
But helping the 7 billion people who have talent but not opportunity feels bigger to us.
There are lots of reasons people get lost and stuck — they were born in the wrong place, their parents messed up the programming, their school was terrible, their brains worked a bit different to others, they went to prison, they get addicted to the money crack in a proper job……..the list is long.
We all like to think we are creative autonomous beings
But accelerators make all businesses look the same
The goal of the accelerator is to get you VC money
VC businesses have to look a certain way
And when you look a certain way to get VC money you have tied yourself to the VC’s economic goal and time frame
And booom you have traded your time for money
Which is basically time slavery, no?
I don’t remember who said this to me.
All I remember is I was in a field in some suburban town taking a break from some god awful client workshop.
But it was a question that floored me.
I had never actually thought about what I wanted in the world. Working hard = being busy = success
Have you asked yourself which of these three would you rather be ?
Founder 1: Runs startup for five years. Sells for ~$100M. Makes $30M.
Founder 2: Running startup for ten years (and counting). Valued at ~$1B. Founder shares valued at $30M.
Founder 3: The Mexican fisherman
What would happen if you put time freedom at the top of your tree?

It has taken me 41 years to work our what I was put on this earth for.
It’s my path, my purpose, my calling, my Daemon.
I write this in the hope that it may will take you less time. 🙌.
I’m here to help people up ladders.
Whether it’s my family, the startups I work with, employees, coaching people…it’s all I do.
I had been searching for this forever as (like most people) I took on other people’s expectations from family, school, work.
Then I found the trick…
It was only when I gave myself permission to play and…
Tldr: I have read everything on building personal wealth and tried many things. I have come back to simple. This should help you save yourself from the thing that will harm you the most – your own emotions.
Do you know that the best performing funds in Fidelity are from dead people and people who’ve forgotten their accounts….?
The temptation to meddle is the biggest thing that will hit your returns.
We are gullible emotional monkeys who are hardwired to be bad investors. …
Tl:dr. If you feel like you are on a hamster wheel at times I can highly recommend ‘planning your life backwards’. Beware. You could end up realising what you really want.
I am lucky enough spend many days with brilliant people – Creatives, entrepreneurs, vc investors, corporate execs etc.
Yet it constantly surprises me how few have worked out what they really want in the world.
Most admit to not knowing. They concede they’re on autopilot doing what they ‘should do’ because it’s what ‘everyone else does’. Or ‘what my parents expect’ or ‘what will make me money’.
