The magic of big thinking and moist robots

Let me tell you a secret.

It came from a senior guy from one of Europe’s roaring tech success stories – the Hut Group.

I asked the secret to their success and he answered, “The Magic of Thinking Big”.

Every year they set insane goals that are repeated mantra-like ie “we will be bigger than Tesco”. They are silly and no one believes them at first and yet, every year, they magically hit them. And then, every year, they believe each crazyass goal a bit more.

It’s a story about the power of programming people’s brains for the impossible and it happens to be one of the easiest and most powerful tools for any CEO to access.

The pattern repeats over and over again. You see it in Nelson Hill’s classic study of billionaires, think and grow rich , Steve Jobs’ famous reality distortion field, Scott Adams’s affirmations (his book changed my life). Gary Vaynerchuk’s reverse engineering.

Set an impossible goal. Magically hit it.

So why does it work?

That’s for a whole other post. But in short, because we are all “moist robots” that are surprisingly malleable to programming. Most NLP is BS but 10 percent is unbelievablely powerful.

So if you’re CEO you have three main jobs

1. Hire brilliantly

2. Keep enough cash in the bank

3. Set the vision

It just so happens that setting the vision is the easiest and most powerful when you have the tools. Chris Sacca’s favourite book – “the magic of thinking big” is a pretty good place to start.
